Registry – Patch to display HTML help files

Problem

If using Windows XP and after installing security update KB896358, you may discover that the HTML Help features of the network installation of APIS IQ-Software may not work correctly due to the changed security policy. The topics may be listed but the target page will stay empty. We reccomend that you use a newer version of Windows as Microsoft no longer produce updates and IQ no longer tests its software for Windows XP.

Reason according to Microsoft Knowledge Base

“A vulnerability exists in HTML Help that could allow remote code execution on an affected system.” The vulnerability is documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Solution

The registry patch file will change the relevant registry entry which is responsible for cross domain links to be classified as trustworthy in local networks. That way all references will work for links on local machines as well as for intranet links. Download and install the ‘Registry – Patch’ file. Please note that you will need administrator rights to modify your registry.

Windows XP is no longer recommended

We recommend to upgrade to a newer version of Windows as Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP and IQ no longer runs tests for it.
